Seeing Red, Part Deux

A  few weeks back I posted, all excited-like, about our wonderful new red walls. Well, I had spoken too soon!

The entire painting experience turned out to be a lot more involved and drawn out than it should have been. First, the painting crew was stretched too thin over entirely too many jobs, and their works suffers as a result. Second, there was a mishap at Lowes when the paint was mixed. What should have been a nice, vibrant matte finish red came out a splotchy glossy red. It was terrible. Really terrible.

I swear we lost square footage from all the coats of paint that finally went up. What was supposed to be a 3-day job turned into two weeks. I am really thankful that the timetable I’m working from has us still nicely ahead of schedule. But it was finally finished up this past Monday, and we’re very happy with the results.

Friday the crew from Olympic Flooring came in and began the arduous task of tearing up the old carpet (which did not want to come up!), and laying the vinyl tile in the back gaming area.

The carpet was leaving behind a mess of old carpet glue and shreds of the carpet itself, which then needed to be scraped up. But, they worked at it and worked at it, and got it up.

While part of the crew continued to tear up the carpet, some of the guys began laying the tile in the back. Square by square I began to seeing the gaming area taking shape and coud picture the room full of tables and, more importantly, players! We went with a vinyl tile in the gaming space since we’ll be allowing food back there, and it’ll be much easier to clean the eventual spillage than if we had carpeting back there.

The carpet was supposed to arrive on Thursday. It didn’t. They were then told it would arrive on Friday at 11:00am. Nothing. It finally arrived around 2:00pm. So, the crew had to come in today and finish it up. Had the carpet arrived just a bit later it would have pushed us into next week. So, I’m glad it got here when it did!

The guys were done at 2:07pm today, and everything looks great. After weeks of just being a mess with drywall mud and paint splotched everywhere you looked, it looks so clean now. We’re really pleased with how the color of the carpet looks with the red and tan walls. It all ties together quite nicely.

Now that the carpet is done, we can start bringing in fixtures. I just bought another bunch of fixtures the other day from the Discovery Channel Store in Polaris Mall. They’re closing their stores and selling off fixtures and we got several great pieces. But, we can’t pick those up until the first week of August. But, we’ve still got the stuff we got from CompUSA’s closing that’s been hanging out in our garage to move into the store.

We were in the neighborhood tonight and decided to swing by and take a look at the shop. How psyched are you that Chili’s is so close you can practically cartwheel into it?! Looks really cool, can’t wait to see it. 24 days, better get those boxes unpacked!
